Is it difficult to pass NIOS exams?
NIOS Course is easy as compared to other State Board Courses for 10th & 12th. It requires reasonable efforts on the part of the student. Hence, it is easy to pass NIOS exams.
Who can take admission in NIos 10th OR 12th?
Any student or person who had been to school / college anytime but not yet passed 10th OR 12th standard can join NIOS to pass schooling / junior college.
What is the eligibility criteria for admission to the Secondary Course?
- A learner who has passed class VIII and has a valid proof that he/she has attained 14 years of age can apply for registration to the Secondary Course.
- The learner who gives a self certificate stating that “I have studied and able to pursue the secondary course” is also eligible for admission to the Secondary Course.
- The learner who had studied at the Secondary level can also seek admission in NIOS either to complete his course or to improve his performance.
- Residential proof of the learner.
When are NIOS Exams held?
NIOS Theory (written) exams are held in April and November each year.
Is it compulsory to take Maths and Science to pass NIOS 10th?
No. A student can pass NIOS 10th even without taking Maths and Science.
What is the validity period of admission?
The Admission (once registered) is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of admission.
Is it compulsory to take Hindi and Marathi to pass NIOS 10th?
No. A student can pass NIOS 10th even without taking Hindi and Marathi.
I have left my schooling few years ago, can I join NIOS and continue my education now?

Can a student join college after passing NIOS 10th?
Yes. A student can take admission in College in standard 11th and continue its further studies.
I live outside India, can I take admission in NIOS 10th /12th and pursue my education?
Yes. You can join NIOS Course and pursue your education. You will be required to submit necessary documents for taking admission in NIOS course.
What are the mediums of studies available in NIOS?
NIOS offers the Secondary course in English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Odia, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam and Punjabi mediums; and the Senior Secondary course in English, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Gujarati and Urdu mediums.
What is the Minimum age to take admission in the Secondary & Senior Secondary Course?
The minimum age to take admission in the Secondary Course is 14 years and for Senior Secondary is 15 years.

How many subjects are required to be taken for obtaining the pass certificate?
For obtaining a pass certificate at the Secondary level, a learner is required to pass in minimum five subjects including one or maximum two languages
Can a learner choose any subject combination?
Yes, a learner has the option to choose subjects of his/her choice from the list provided by NIOS keeping in view the Pass Criteria and Certification Criteria, as also the requirement of other Boards/ Universities for further education.
